Accommodation and Organisation

St. Paul's School is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England
Primary School in the Diocese of Guildford catering for girls and
boys aged four to eleven years. Children are admitted either in
the September of the academic year in which they have their fifth
birthday or at the age of 7+ from other infant schools.

The school is divided into three bases:

Lower Base (5-7 year olds) Reception, Years 1 and 2

Middle Base (7-9 year olds) Years 3 and 4

Upper Base (9-11 year olds) Years 5 and 6

Each base has a member of staff responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the base and the overall discipline and welfare
of the children.

Our accommodation comprises a two-storey building and a
single-storey building for the lower base linked by a corridor.
There are large playgrounds and extensive grounds.

The Lower Base consists of five bright, attractive classrooms in
a self-contained unit with its own library and toilet facilities.
It has its own entrance, cloakrooms and fenced playground.
The infant department therefore provides a secure and happy
environment in which the youngest children can have the best
possible start to their school career.

The ground floor of the larger building houses the Middle Base
classes with their practical areas, together with the main library,
a music and drama studio, the hall and the school offices.

Upstairs are the Upper Base classrooms and the newly refurbished
ICT. suite.

Pastoral Care

We want all children to feel happy and secure at school. If there
is a problem at home or at school that you would like to discuss,
your child's teacher will always try to see you as soon as possible.

Please bear in mind that due to teaching or other commitments
it may be necessary to make an appointment at a mutually
convenient time.

Parents are also very welcome to contact the Headteacher,
Deputy Headteacher or Base Co-ordinator.

We aim to develop a sense of responsibility in all our children and
one of the ways in which this can be achieved is by giving the
children at the top of the school the opportunity to take on
specific responsibilities. We also operate a 'house' system with
children in the Middle and Upper bases joining one of four houses,
Abbey, Bourne, Mole or Wey. Children are awarded points for their
house for special effort, both inside and outside the classroom.

Extra-curricular activities

There are a number of clubs, usually held after school, such as
recorders, drama and art, as well as a full range of sports
including netball, football, cricket, cross-country running and
rugby. There are also opportunities during the year for children
to join the choir and to take part in drama productions.

Visits and Residential Journeys

Local visits and journeys further afield offer valuable educational opportunities to our children and all classes make visits at various times during the year. In addition some children have the opportunity
to take part in residential visits. In recent years school journeys
have been made to Osmington Bay and to the Isle of Arran,
Scotland.

St. Paul's School Association

All parents are automatically members of the Association for
which there is no membership fee. Many events, large and
small, are organised throughout the year from the Christmas
and Summer Fairs, to Quiz Evenings, Disco, Barbecues and
Good as New Sales.

Although some events are organised primarily for social
enjoyment, a large amount of money is raised throughout the
year from which the school benefits. The hall and studio were
re-curtained by the Association and other items purchased over a
period of time include large items such as computer equipment
down to paint drying racks for classroom use. In 2004, £7000
was donated towards updating our excellent ICT facilities.

Parents also give practical help. Over the past years landscaping
and improvements to the school grounds have been carried
out and are continuing. A very long hedge has been planted,
sheds have been moved, footpaths laid, and a totally new
patio installed outside the hall. The aim is to add to the
school's appearance, improve play areas and augment
environmental study areas. This work will continue for some
time to come and any help from families is always welcome.

The Association is for both parents and their children. It is
only by active support of the Association that the school and
its pupils benefit.

The After-School Club

The After-School Club operates five days a week from 3.05 p.m.
until 5.45 p.m. It provides a good quality service for working
parents who need their children to be cared for after school as
well as much-needed opportunities for children to take part in
a variety of enjoyable and interesting activities in a safe
environment.

The Club is run on a daily basis by a team of playworkers
experienced and qualified to work with children between the
ages of 4 and 11. The Club receives active support and advice
from Children in Surrey and the Surrey Play Council and has
been awarded a grant from the Surrey Training and Enterprise
Council.

The cost per session is £7 for the First child in the family, £12
for two children and £16 for three children from the same family.
Further details and booking forms can be obtained by contacting
the school office or ringing 07753 118646 between 3.05pm and
5.45pm.
