The fun starts here!
We believe that children learn best when
they feel happy, secure and valued. We carefully plan
and structure their learning by extending and developing
the children’s own spontaneous play.
These are some comments from a group of
Year 2 children who would recommend St Paul’s!
-
Lots of people are nice. (Abigail)
-
There are lots of people to play
with. (Tanith)
-
The teachers want you to try your
best but if you are struggling you can ask for help.
(Danny)
-
Reading is fun because you can find
out information. We can earn certificates for
reading four times a week. (Pieter)
-
When you are doing maths you can use
cubes, teddies, a number grid, partition cards and
bead strings to solve the problems. (Harrison)
“We learn by looking and listening,”
Pieter, Harrison and Danny.
This year day trips have included
Painshill Park (Geography) and the Imperial War Museum
(History). We have enjoyed learning from visitors as
well: Chertsey Museum staff have shared their treasure
boxes with us to teach us about the past.
We loved learning about fire safety from
Taffy the firefighter.
An annual highlight is our Christmas
Nativity play when we all get the opportunity to bring
tears to our parents’ eyes!
“I loved being me in the play” (Harrison
who acted as Ned the donkey who discovered Christmas).
Box modelling is a popular activity. As
we are working hard at being
green, the children are encouraged to make
something useful, earning a special award when they do.
This year we opened our Vegetable Garden
which will come into good use as we learn about being a
child during World War 2.
We value the support of our parents,
grandparents and community volunteers. Each class has a
‘Class Mum or Dad’ for additional family support.
Caring for each other in the St Paul’s community is very
important to us. |
