Transition
Welcome to St Paul’s CofE Primary School, Addlestone
At St Paul’s Primary School, we believe every child is known, valued, and encouraged to flourish. Our school is a warm, inclusive community where curiosity is celebrated, kindness is modelled, and learning is an adventure shared by children, families, and staff. Whether you are joining us for the first time or moving up through the school, we are committed to making every transition smooth, supportive, and exciting.
Starting School at St Paul’s – Welcome to Our New Families
Beginning primary school is a special milestone, and we are delighted to welcome our newest pupils into the St Paul’s family. We understand that this transition can feel both exciting and overwhelming, so we provide a clear, nurturing introduction to school life.
What new starters can expect:
A warm welcome to help children explore their new classroom and meet their teacher
Stay‑and‑play (Little Owls) opportunities to build confidence in the school environment
Nursery and home visits to foster relationships
A dedicated Early Years team who work closely with parents to ensure every child feels safe, happy, and ready to learn
Practical guidance for parents on routines, uniform, lunches, communication, and how to support learning at home
Our aim is simple: to help every child begin their St Paul’s journey with joy, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
Moving Up – Transition Between Year Groups
As children progress through the school, we support them at every step to ensure transitions feel positive and purposeful. Each summer term, pupils take part in a structured programme designed to help them understand what’s changing—and what will stay reassuringly familiar.
Our transition approach includes:
Transition Morning: Children spend time in their new classroom with their next teacher
Meet the Teacher pop in: A chance for children to show their families their new classroom
Meet the Teacher page: Simple, child‑friendly page to introduce the children to their new teacher
Additional support for pupils who need it: Extra visits, small‑group sessions, or personalised transition plans
New Key Stage Videos: A parent guide to the new key stage, whether moving from EYFS to KS1 or KS1 to KS2, this video highlights all the changes
Parent updates: Clear communication so families feel informed and confident
We want every child to step into their new year group feeling ready, supported, and excited for the year ahead.
